While updating the windows xp to sp3 on mac(macbook) after completing the download, at the start of the installation step, the installer gives the error that :
There is not enough disk space on C:\WINDOWS\$NtServicePackUninstall$ to install Service Pack 3 Setup requires an additional 4 megabytes of free space or if you also want to archive the files for uninstallation,Setup requires 4 additional megabytes of free space. Free additional space on your hard disk and then try again.
Quite irritatin, but simple to fix. Follow the following steps to fix this problem:
1. goto:> start > run
2. type "regedit" (without the quotation marks" and press enter
3. from left menu list, goto:>
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup
4. Now in the right side, right click in empty area and create new "String Value"
5. Name this string value as: "BootDir" (without the quotation marks) and set its value to "C:\" (without the quotation marks.
6. Close the regedit, and run the update again. Its already downloaded so it will skip the download step for sp3 and start the install this time, this process dont require the restart to make registry edit to work.
