Windows Seven / 7 on macbook - installation

E-mail Print PDF

Installing windows seven on macbook is a simple task. Infact right now i m writing this post from windows seven on a macbook 2.4ghz.

The installation begins as the normal windows xp or vista installation. Following are the steps:

Preparing:

Backup all your critical data and make sure that you have following items ready with you:

  1. mac os dvd
  2. windows seven dvd
  3. windows dvd key
  4. macbook ofcourse! with power supply
  5. a cup of coffee

Partitioning:

We start with boot manager in the applications folder in mac os.

There, just follow the steps, and where asked to chose for the space, select how much space you want to use for your windows. I will recommend 50 GB or more if you are planning it to use for a while and not doing it just for testing purposes.

Next steps again just and then it asks to restart, make sure that u have inserted the windows seven dvd in the drive before you click to restart.

Restarting system:

Next step is to restrat the system and start the windows installer, it does automatically. Will only require you to enter the serial key for activation during the process.

Running the windows and installing drivers:

Drivers are installed by inserting your mac os dvd once the windows is installed succefully and then you logged in it. Most of the drivers are already installed by windows except for sound and few others.

To install them, you need to insert the mac os dvd that you had, and begin the installation of the drivers.

Once completed with it, you might notice that the sound drivers are not installed till now. That's because the drivers are not having compatibility defined for windows seven.

Simply browse the dvd, and goto the folder for audio drivers, right click the install file, and click "troubleshoot compatibility" and then select "this worked in previous versions of windows" click next, and select windows xp or vista.

This will install the drivers. You might also need to assign administrative privileges to make it work.

Refill your coffee cup:

Hopefully you enjoyed the coffee during all!
